Why Reddit and GA4 disagree
Different windows, different date logic, different philosophies. This guide reconciles them without picking a false winner.

Reddit Ads Manager includes view-through attribution while GA4 commonly reads last-click; Reddit dates conversions to the view or click while third parties date them to the event. Both systems are internally consistent and mutually irreconcilable without aligned rules.
Window divergence#
Manager default of 28-day click plus 1-day view captures research journeys GA4 last-click truncates. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions. Decide per decision: optimisation follows platform credit, budgeting follows modelled or last-click truth. Windows: attribution windows.
Date logic divergence#
Reddit Help documents impression-or-click dating while third parties use conversion dating, so identical conversions land on different days across systems. Daily pacing comparisons without date alignment manufacture false alarms. Help note: third-party mismatch help.
The reconciliation routine#
Align windows, align date logic, compare over identical spans, then accept a stable gap as structural rather than suspicious. Investigate only moving gaps: sudden divergence signals tracking breakage, dedup decay or window edits, not philosophy. Dedup check: dedup guide.
Triangulate spend decisions#
Platform credit for in-flight optimisation, GA4 or modelled credit for budget allocation, lift studies for truth. Three lenses, each honest about its blindness. Reddit own SMB material recommends comparing Manager against GA4 explicitly rather than expecting reconciliation. Source: how Reddit ads work.
When the gap moves#
A stable 2x gap is architecture; a gap jumping from 2x to 5x is breakage. Checklist: Pixel firing, CAPI coverage, dedup IDs, window edits, consent-mode changes, landing-page rebuilds. Fix tracking before touching bids. Audit cadence: events audit.
Putting reconciliation into practice#
Build the reconciliation sheet this week: aligned spans, aligned windows, both date logics, stable-gap baseline. Distribute it to everyone who has ever screenshotted a mismatch; shared arithmetic ends recurring arguments. One sheet, permanent peace.
Wire the moving-gap checklist into on-call runbooks so tracking breakage pages humans instead of festering. Runbook: dedup guide and events audit.
Frequently asked questions#
Why does Reddit report more conversions than GA4?
View-through inclusion plus impression dating versus GA4 last-click conversion dating.
Which number should budgets follow?
Modelled or last-click truth for budgets; platform credit for in-flight optimisation.
How are the systems reconciled?
Align windows and date logic, compare identical spans, accept stable gaps as structural.
When should gaps trigger alarms?
When the gap moves suddenly; stable gaps are architecture, moving gaps are breakage.
What breaks the gap first?
Pixel failures, CAPI coverage drops, dedup decay, window edits and unmapped site rebuilds.
What ends mismatch arguments?
A shared reconciliation sheet with aligned spans, windows and date logics.
